After the Event 2020 had to be cancelledThis year, the unique course in the Oetelshofen quarry near Wuppertal will be the starting point of the 2021 edition. On 2 October 2021, bikers will set off from the bottom of the quarry on a circuit that has never been seen before in this form in Germany. Exciting uphill and downhill sections over the up to 30 metre high quarry steps, fast-paced single trails through the neighbouring forests as well as carrying and climbing sections through mud, sand and water promise a completely new racing experience. The Red Bull Radical no longer has anything to do with classic bike races, but is a modern obstacle course on two wheels. The new race format with a high fun factor is deliberately designed to appeal to everyone.
A new surprise awaits around every bend
In order to make it to the finish line before the grace period of two hours, participants have to conquer 25 kilometres and 600 metres in altitude as well as demonstrate mental strength, power, endurance and riding technique. There are alternative routes so that not only mountain bike pros make it to the finish: An additional loop that you ride if you are unable to tackle an obstacle. And the best thing about it: the course consists of just one long lap. Each obstacle is therefore only crossed once and a new surprise awaits around every bend.
"The different obstacles are like checkpoints that you have to complete. They require riding skills in terms of balance, strength and dexterity. There are narrow beams that you have to ride over, otherwise you end up in the mud, or a steep ramp that can only be climbed with the help of a rope." The participation fee including starter pack is 49 euros. Participation from the age of 18, all mountain bikes with tread tyres are permitted. Registration is possible at www.redbull.com/radical possible.
The health and safety of the participants is the organiser's top priority at all times. Based on a strict hygiene and safety concept and in constant coordination with the responsible authorities, it is ensured that all participants can enjoy their race safely and healthily even in times of Covid-19. For this reason, the participants will be sent onto the course in several starting waves.
