Following the success of the Orbit360 Gravel Series in 2020, the Berlin organisers led by Raphael Albrecht are calling for the next challenge for long-distance bikers: At the Ride For A Reason Challenge from the 27 February to 31 March cyclists from all over the world can take part. Unlike the Orbit360 series, the route planning is in the hands of the participants. There are two distances: 360 kilometres and 180 kilometres. The route must be ridden in an orbit, i.e. a circle, alone or in a team of two. Each participant determines the surface, the bike and the exact route themselves.
The organisers are primarily concerned with using the thousands of kilometres ridden in the ultracycling scene for a good cause. This is why the majority of the proceeds from the donation-based participant fees go to two charitable organisations: Bikeygees e.V.who teach women refugees in Berlin how to ride a bike and Ghana Bamboo Bike Projectwhich provides children in Ghana with bamboo bikes, without which they would not be able to go to school due to the poor infrastructure. Sponsor Komoot is also contributing to the donation.
A fast course? An adventurous route? By mountain bike, gravel bike or even road bike? A route with history or a personal connection? The decision is up to the #rideFAR-participants themselves. In addition to the official time ranking, the funniest, most exciting and most adventurous routes will be presented on the Orbit360 channels and in a best-of collection. In addition, the most imaginative route ideas will be rewarded with 30 premium packages.
As this is an "unsupported race", no help from third parties is permitted, and slipstreaming is also not allowed. The clock continues to run at every break, whether it is a short bar stop or an overnight stop. The route must therefore be ridden and uploaded in one go.
It starts on 27 February 2021. You can register at www.orbit360.cc
Then, on 1 May, the well-known
into its second round. In addition to new routes, there will also be a new points system in 2021.
