Modern air suspension on MTBs requires precise tuning, which is not possible without a shock pump. But which pump really measures accurately? And are digital pumps better than analogue ones? In our test, we tested 13 current shock pumps and present them here one after the other. Today: the Topeak Pocketshock Digital.

Topeak Pocketshock Digital - Equipment

Topeak's digital shock pump - like all digital models in the test, with the exception of the Lezyne - reaches up to 300 psi. With its slim, slightly rubberised handle, the Pocketshock is still reasonably compact, but its length no longer fits in every hip bag.

Its 125 mm hose can be rotated through 360 degrees and is covered with a plastic braid for added protection. The long and slim valve head also has a valve decoupler. To release the pressure, Topeak uses a small push button next to the hose connection.

Handling

When it comes to handling, the Pocketshock Digital Hardly any weaknesses. Despite the small handle, it sits comfortably in the hand. There is also always a comfortable grip position on the front of the pressure gauge without having to press the finely adjustable release button. The hose is long enough for comfortable pumping and thanks to the slightly larger volume, the shock pump fills the fork and shock quickly enough.

With its long valve head, the Topeak serves all common valves. Screwing on and off is easy. Caution: do not forget to decouple the valve when unscrewing. Otherwise the air that has just been pumped in will be lost.

Measuring accuracy

In contrast to the somewhat less accurate analogue Topeak, the Pocketshock Digital shock pump measures extremely precisely. In our test, it was less than one psi off the required value in every single measurement. The display is clearly legible and shows values below 100 psi in 0.5 increments.

Conclusion: Topeak Pocketshock Digital

In contrast to the analogue Pocketshock, the digital shock pump measures extremely precisely - the same pressure gauge as Rockshox. The Topeak also impresses in terms of handling: comfortable grip, long, protected hose, easy-to-operate and sufficiently long valve head, easy-to-adjust deflation button. The pump volume is also slightly larger. The Pocketshock Digital can do everything a touch better than its analogue sister - it just takes up a little more space in the rucksack. It won't fit in most hip bags. Nevertheless: a great digital pump at a fair price.
