The choice of ventilators has grown: lightweight floor pumps compete with classic mini-pumps. A step forward? Five mobile bicycle floor pumps in a comparison test.

On a rough estimate, mobile bicycle floor pumps are 100 grams heavier and ten centimetres longer than classic mini pumps. Not all of them excelled in our test with a high pumping volume. Nevertheless, they can make pumping easier: you save yourself the effort of holding on and use your body weight. With these mini floor pumps, even petite female bikers can bring voluminous MTB tyres up to operating pressure.

CONCLUSION The BBB can be pulled out a long way with its telescopic mechanism, but the pump volume is average. A barely legible pressure gauge and a hose that is too short cost further points.

BIKE judgement³ SATISFACTORY

CONCLUSION The sleek designer pump shines in terms of workmanship and features, but not in practice: the tiny volume is probably more suitable for racing bikes, and air escapes from the valve attachment when it is fitted.

BIKE judgement³ GOOD

CONCLUSION Beautifully made and with the best pressure gauge in the test. The small handle squeezes uncomfortably at 3 bar at the latest, and the thread on the pump foot for the valve attachment gets dirty in practice. Extremely expensive.

BIKE judgement³ GOOD

TOPEAK Turbo Morph G

Price 45 Euro >> e.g. available here
Weight¹ 273 g
Length / Diameter 350 / 27 mm
Equipment Frame holder, T-handle, pressure gauge, folding foot, toggle valve attachment
Pump strokes² per bar 45
Equipment / Processing 8 out of 9 points
Handling 8 out of 9 points

CONCLUSION The best handling in this class with Zefal, minus possible knuckle contact on the handle. Good pumping performance, even if the manufacturer's specification (up to 11 bar) seems utopian. Pressure gauge difficult to read.

ZEFAL Profile Mini

Price 37 Euro
Weight¹ 309 g

Equipment T-handle, folding foot, toggle valve attachment
Pump strokes² per bar 27

CONCLUSION As expected, the heaviest and thickest pump in the test offers the largest air volume. Comfortable grip, good valve attachment. A little more wobbly to handle than Topeak due to the telescopic technology.

BIKE judgement³ GOOD

¹Without bracket, ²Tyre size 29 x 2.2" ³The BIKE verdict is independent of price. BIKE judgements: super, very good, good, satisfactory, sufficient, insufficient.
