What is the basic idea behind Cycle.de?
Cycle.de is a marketplace for used bicycles where buyers and sellers can trade used bicycles securely. The transport sector should be completely climate-neutral in 23 years. We believe in the (used) bicycle as the economically and ecologically strongest means of transport for emission-free mobility.
What does the bicycle database contain?
Cycle.de's bicycle database includes more than 1,500 bicycle and component manufacturers with more than 10,000 pages of scanned catalogues from 1896 to 2022 and more than 50,000 bicycle models from 2011 to 2022. While the brands, logos and catalogues can be accessed via the brand overview, the bicycle database can be accessed via the sell mode.
What is the price calculator based on?
In addition to the basic details of the advert, sellers can enter up to two additional details in order to obtain a current and individual market price estimate for their bike. Factors include the RRP, currency, condition, place of sale, age of the bike, type of dealer, supply and demand, sales pressure, frame material, macroeconomic effects and the inclusion of VAT. The market price calculator was developed and validated in collaboration with a stock exchange trader, lawyer and bicycle mechanic as well as by analysing available trade data.
Where can I use Cycle.de? Am I dependent on certain cities?
The aim of the platform is to create a bicycle marketplace for the whole of Europe. However, it will mainly be used regionally, city by city. This is because buyers and sellers should meet to test ride and hand over a bike, but transfers can also be organised nationwide and bikes can be shipped.
How do you guarantee the secure handling of customer funds?
All payments are handled and secured in accordance with the PSD2 directive. A separate escrow account with a banking licence from the European Commission is set up for each transfer.
