The Fizik Terra Artica GTX uses a Gore-Tex membrane to insulate your feet against uncomfortable weather conditions. In the waterproof winter shoe for mountain and gravel bikers, fleece material also protects against the cold. A Boa fastener and a grippy sole promise a good fit and grip. We tested the winter shoe extensively and didn't go easy on it.
In winter, I wear the Fizik Terra Artica GTX almost every day. With SPD and Time-Cleats, the function is excellent. The Gore-Tex membrane reliably protects against splashing water - even after thousands of kilometres of use. The new colour is polarising: hip new school look or rather orthopaedic? - Jan Timmermann, BIKE test editor
A Gore-Tex Cirrus XT membrane in the winter shoe protects against moisture from the outside while maintaining good breathability. A cosy bed of fleece keeps your feet comfortably warm even at temperatures of around five degrees. The fit remains Italian-sporty, but is slightly roomier at the forefoot compared to its predecessor. This is great, as it prevents pressure points even on long rides. The adjustment via the Boa strap plus Velcro element is uncomplicated and effective. The large dial can be operated even when wearing thick winter gloves.
Thanks to a rubberised sole with large outer lugs, the shoe also cuts a fine figure on slippery passages. In view of the successful combination of weather protection and warmth, the power transmission to the clipless pedal is impressive. We have already put thousands of kilometres on the Terra Artica GTX and the durability leaves no room for complaint. The high price is also okay. Only the upper should be a little higher for riding in the rain. If it gets really wet from above, moisture can quickly penetrate the transition to the trousers.
I have grown fond of the Fizik Terra Artica GTX as a winter shoe. It offers exactly the mix of sportiness and weather protection that I am looking for for daily use in the cold season. The workmanship is impeccable and the durability is impressive. My only criticism is that the shaft is too short in the rain and moisture can penetrate from above. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE test editor
