Last winter, we covered hundreds of kilometres with Shimano's SH-MW 7 winter shoe. The shoe is convincing. Only once it gets wet, it dries extremely slowly.

The fit is rather narrow for Shimano, the workmanship is impeccable and the insulation is sufficient for our latitudes. The quick lacing system in combination with the Velcro fastener provides a firm grip. Shimano counteracts the spray of the front wheel with a flat Velcro cover on the SH-MW 7, with a neoprene upper that could easily be a few centimetres higher. The Torbal sole is soft compared to carbon soles, but sufficient for a winter shoe. On the other hand, it provides the necessary grip for a decent run. The biggest drawback of the SH-MW 7 was the long drying time when the shoe got wet. Due to the overlapping construction, the forefoot area dries very slowly.

CONCLUSION All-round protection for your feet: the SH-MW 7 is Shimano's top winter shoe.

PLUS Quick lacing system, moisture protection
MINUS Dries very slowly, not very stiff sole
