"Hellion" - colloquially, this term describes a rascal or troublemaker. But the brand new flat pedal shoe from Ride Concepts also goes by this name. Quite fitting! Because with its sophisticated features, the Hellion Elite joins the ranks of the market leaders from Five Ten and Co.
The Ride Concepts Hellion Elite is now available in two colours as a men's version, as a special women's model and only as a flat pedal shoe.
The centrepiece is the new Rubber Kinetics DST 4.0 MAX GRIP sole. The rubber compound is said to be particularly soft and grippy. Paired with the hexagonal tread structure, the Hellion is designed to make perfect contact with the pedals. An additional midsole offers extra comfort on rough descents or hard landings thanks to its own cushioning. The surfaces are made of synthetic microfibre and are abrasion and weather resistant.
For improved durability, an abrasion-resistant plastic layer adorns the toe and heel area. The reinforced toe cap protects against injuries both on the pedals and when pushing. Also practical: an antibacterial mesh insert on the inside of the shoe is designed to minimise the smell of sweaty feet, especially on hot days. The developers have also come up with a special feature for the insole. So-called D3O high-impact zones on the ball of the foot and the heel absorb shocks and thus further increase comfort.
We have already been able to test the newcomer from Ride Conceps for several weeks. When the foot is on the pedal, the rubber sole absorbs the pins. Just enough so that you don't have to completely remove the shoe from the pedal when changing your foot position. That's worth its weight in gold! The self-cushioning is also good. Thanks to the profiled sole, you'll find a secure grip even on slippery sections. Thanks to its stylish skater look, the Hellion also cuts a fine figure for after-ride beers in the pub. The detailed test report can be found in BIKE 6/2021.
