Lightweight and waterproof: Shimano winter shoes SH-MW7
Lightweight lining, waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, grippy sole and, last but not least, a Boa quick-release fastener.

The new Shimano pedals have all the ingredients you need to arm yourself for the current weather conditions. We were able to ride the winter shoe in different conditions. The Boa fastener makes getting in and out extremely quick and uncomplicated. Even with very slim feet, the adjustment range of the Boa fastener is still sufficient. The additional flap serves to cover the lacing and provides very effective protection against dirt and moisture. Even when there's a lot of water on the trail, the MW7 reliably keeps the bottom tight. However, the Gore-Tex membrane does not extend all the way up to the neoprene cuff. Although this ensures a high level of comfort, it also means that water can enter prematurely from above if the conditions are particularly nasty. The pre-shaped sole with a rather high flex makes for a very smooth ride. The rubber sole from Michelin ensures little slipping. Also great: the upper material is reflective, which improves safety in the dark.

TIP on winter shoes from Ludwig Döhl, BIKE test editor

With overshoes and neoprene socks, you have to make a lot of compromises to keep your feet warm. A proper winter shoe is much more comfortable to handle and ride in.
