Mountain bikers fear no injuries more than those to the spine. This is why Dr Cristopher Leatt began developing the Leatt Brace in 2001. In combination with a full-face helmet, the neck brace is intended to prevent the dangerous hyperextension of the cervical spine - and thus make bike park visits safer. Leatt has been steadily expanding its product range in recent years, and the South Africans are presenting their first shoe collection for 2020. Two models for flat pedals (2.0 and 3.0) and two MTB shoes for clipless pedals (4.0 and 5.0) are available >> e.g. available from Maciag Offroad.
The clipless models have an SPD channel which, according to Leatt, is compatible with all clipless pedals on the market. The cleat can be adjusted 25 millimetres forwards and 15 millimetres backwards. This means that everyone can decide whether the focus is on maximum efficiency or, for example, whether the Achilles tendon should be relieved during big jumps.
With the RideGrip compound, Leatt claims to have developed a very durable, long-lasting rubber compound for the sole that is designed to withstand abrasion and punctures. The "WaffleGrip" pattern of the sole was designed for optimum grip. The special self-cleaning channels are designed to keep dirt away from the soles so that you don't slip off the pedals in the saddle and from rocks and roots when walking. The shoes are also equipped with an antibacterial, odour-neutral and quick-drying inner lining that keeps the shoes fresh. The click models have a combination of Velcro and lacing system, while the flat pedal shoes are laced conventionally.
