Until now, Northwave has specialised in click shoes, but they have recently added the Clan flat shoe to their range.

Visually, it reminds us of Five Ten - that's not bad! Heel and toe protection: Check! Abrasion-resistant upper material: Check! Ventilation: also check! The stiff Michelin sole consists of three parts: It should bite into the pedal pins in the centre and provide sufficient grip on the toe and heel with a coarse profile when walking. Both work very well. However, the shoe is a little heavy - for comparison: Specialized 2F0 or Five Tens Freerider Pro weigh around 300 grams less. Weight: 1036 grams (size 45).

STRENGTHS Processing, sole, grip

WEAKNESSES Does not slip in easily, weight

Conclusion: functional flat shoe with a lot of grip, stiff sole and good workmanship. A little heavy. We still like the Clan.

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
