The good news first: Fizik is not launching a new super-expensive high-end racing shoe on the market. The Ferox Carbon or Vento Ferox models with prices over 300 euros will continue to fulfil this role. Instead, the Italians are adding an MTB race shoe to their portfolio that is designed to combine a powerful ride and high comfort at an acceptable price.
When performance is required on demanding XC trails or in fast gravel races, the Vento Proxy should be the solution. The shoe's DNA is based on the manufacturer's top products. The Proxy is said to be particularly well ventilated thanks to an innovative, translucent, PU-laminated mesh material. The material is also designed to make the shoe both light and comfortable. Thanks to its tear-resistant construction, the upper material is nevertheless hard-wearing and should survive the odd contact in the terrain.
Like the more expensive models, the Fizik Vento Proxy uses the Boa quick lacing system. The closure pattern is said to have been chosen to support the foot and equalise the tension on the instep. This should permanently eliminate pressure points. With the fine-tuned Li2 BOA system, bikers can fine-tune the fit to get maximum performance out of the shoe without having to compromise on comfort.
The newly designed X3 fibre composite outsole is intended to offer more stiffness for efficient power transmission. However, the Vento Proxy will not come close to the stiffness of a carbon sole. The generous rubber tread not only ensures better grip on the pedals, but also improves traction on pushing sections or when you have to get off your bike in a CX race.
The new Fizik racing shoe is now available online and in stores at a price of 229 euros. We have already ordered a test copy and will be reporting more about the shoe shortly.
