Adidas is expanding its Five Ten mountain bike shoe series with a new model featuring the BOA closure system. The Freerider Pro BOAAccording to the manufacturer, the combines proven technologies from the Freerider range with a precisely adjustable BOA twist lock.
This allows bikers to quickly and easily adjust the fit of the shoe to their requirements at any time - even while riding! This is because the BOA Li2 system can be adjusted both tighter and wider with the familiar dial. This means that the flat pedal shoe can be laced tight for technical descents and then loosened again.
The BOA Fit System consists of a twist lock that is connected to the upper material via thin steel cables. By turning the fastener, the tension of the ropes and therefore the fit can be adjusted with millimetre precision.
As a flat pedal shoe, the Freerider Pro BOA relies on Five Ten's Stealth rubber compound. In combination with the characteristic dot-shaped Dotty profile of the outsole, this should ensure maximum grip on the pedals. The shoe is equipped with a reinforced toe cap to protect against impacts and stone chips. A cushioned EVA midsole is designed to support the foot both when riding and walking. According to Adidas, the upper material of the shoe is quick-drying.
Together with BOA, Adidas has developed a special fit configuration called PerformFit Wrap for the Freerider Pro BOA. This is based on an asymmetrical upper shoe, which is designed to distribute pressure evenly and reduce pressure points. By tightly enclosing the foot, Adidas promises an improved connection between the foot and the midsole.
This should lead to optimised power transmission and better heel hold. According to the manufacturer, the benefits of this fit innovation have been scientifically proven. The PerformFit Wrap system was developed by a team of biomechanics experts in the BOA Performance Fit Lab. BOA regularly works with the University of Denver in the USA and various athletes to test its concepts.
The Five Ten Freerider Pro BOA is equipped with the Li2 twist lock from BOA. This can be precisely adjusted in both directions so that the fit can be fine-tuned at any time. The fastener has a quick-release function for fast donning and doffing. According to the manufacturer, the BOA Fit System is also designed for reliable performance even under extreme conditions such as dust, mud or wet conditions.
Compared to other models in the Freerider series, the Pro BOA is designed to be extra stiff to enable better power transmission. The EVA midsole has a so-called Pro Moderator Support for additional cushioning and stability. And it comes in white - but also in black and red.
