Last season, my feet spent hundreds of hours riding in the white race trainers: whether pushing over hill and dale, at the Salzkammergut Trophy or on a lunchtime lap on my racing bike. The stiff carbon sole, the ratchet and the Velcro fasteners only have a few scuffs. Compared to the previous model, the RXL from Bontrager is much stiffer and gives the foot more support. The microfibre surface ventilates the toes sufficiently even in 35 degree heat. Although the screw-in studs were quickly replaced, the toe cap still provides protection when running over sharp stones. The in-house Inform last is also suitable for wide feet and provides comfortable support for tired soles after many hours of riding. Never before has a lightweight racing shoe survived a season as unscathed as the RXL.
