5 MTB shoes in a quick check
MTB shoes have to fit, protect and provide plenty of grip - we tested five exciting models.

Specialised "2FO" (FREERIDE Tip)

A good debut: Specalized recently launched its first flat pedal shoe - and the result is impressive. The narrow "2FO" is comfortable to wear, airy, looks stylish and provides great grip. The only point of criticism: the thick wedge under the heel. Some testers complained that it made the shoe a little wobbly.
Conclusionwell thought out and pleasant - thumbs up!

Five Ten "Impact VXI"

Five Ten has modified its popular "Impact". It is now lighter and water-repellent. The somewhat wide shoe relies on the proven, robust construction, but now has the even stickier "Stealth Mi6" sole. We still like the thicker padded classic better. (Still available to buy).
ConclusionWeatherproof, robust, but a little sweaty.

O'Neal "Trigger"

With its honeycomb profile on the rather rigid sole, the "Trigger" doesn't provide quite as much grip as the competition, but we found it completely adequate. We criticised the fit - the material wraps around the foot rather spongily instead of providing a firm hold. Good: The shoe offers protection for the ankles.
Conclusionsomewhat spongy, with mediocre ventilation, but good.

Adidas "Terrex Trailcross"

Brand giant Adidas now wants to get in on the action! In 2011, Adidas bought the top dog Five Ten and therefore owns the recipe for the coveted "Stealth" sole. The trekking and mountain bike shoe "Terrex Trailcross" sits firmly and comfortably on the foot, develops a lot of grip with the softer sole (not noticeable in a negative way) and has a high-quality finish. Mission accomplished; successful debut!
ConclusionComfortable shoe, good protection, good grip.

Giro "Jacket"

With its skateboard look and flexible sole, the "Jacket" is very "casual". But it also works for freeride use, although it is not quite as consistently trimmed for MTB shoes. Too bad: The lacing could fix the shoe a little more firmly to the foot. Good: The Vibram sole provides plenty of grip and the toe cap offers sufficient protection.
Conclusioncomfortable MTB shoe with casual skills.
