Van Rysel in Oberhausen: New shop for road bikes and gravel bikes in the Ruhr region

With the new Decathlon flagship store on Brammenring, the Ruhr region is gaining another major cycling retail destination. Van Rysel is moving in there as the brand’s second standalone shop-in-shop in Germany, following its launch in Cologne-Marsdorf in April 2025. The section is clearly aimed at road and gravel cyclists looking for on-site advice, test rides and bike fitting.

According to Decathlon, the new store covers 4,500 square metres of retail space. Alongside the Van Rysel section, a Rebike shop-in-shop selling reconditioned e-bikes and bicycles is also being set up. This significantly expands the range of products on offer for cyclists in the Ruhr region, from second-hand e-bikes to sporty gravel or road bikes.

What does the Van Rysel shop in Oberhausen have to offer?

The shop-in-shop is set to stock around 40 road and gravel bike models. According to the manufacturer, these include, amongst others, the RCR-F aero road bike and the latest RCR-G and EDR-G gravel platforms. The model range thus covers two clearly distinct areas of use: race-gravel bikes for high speeds and competitions, and more comfort-oriented gravel bikes for long tours and mixed terrain.

The Van Rysel RCR-G It is aimed at riders who want to pick up speed on fast gravel tracks, tarmac sections and in gravel races. This may be of interest to mountain bikers if their second bike is primarily intended for long training rides, commuting or fast rides in the local area. However, anyone who regularly rides on technical trails, over roots and rough rock will find that this is no substitute for a full-fledged trail or enduro MTB.

Bike fitting rather than just a sales area

The key difference from a standard retail outlet is said to be the advice on offer. Van Rysel has announced that it will have trained specialist staff and offer bike fitting services. Particularly with performance-oriented road bikes and race gravel bikes, a suitable riding position is more important than the frame size alone: handlebar height, saddle position and reach determine whether a bike performs well over long distances or causes unnecessary strain.

A workshop is to follow at a later date

According to the company, there are plans to open a workshop for Van Rysel bikes and road bikes from other brands. Until the workshop is fully staffed, customers will be able to drop off their bikes at a service point for servicing within the Decathlon network of workshops.

Another new feature is ‘New Bike Day’. Buyers arrange a personal appointment to collect their new bike and receive an initial fitting, as well as advice on accessories, repairs and maintenance. This offer is initially available only for orders collected from the Oberhausen shop.

Opening from 15 to 17 October

The official opening of the Decathlon flagship store is scheduled for Friday 16 October 2026. For the opening weekend from 15 to 17 October, Decathlon has announced, amongst other things, test rides in the Van Rysel Van, in-store promotions and other hands-on activities. The new location is therefore less a destination for your next MTB purchase and more a key new hub for the growing road cycling, gravel and e-bike scene in the Ruhr region.
