The Rohloff is now compatible with plug-in sprockets. A small screwdriver is all you need to change them.

Until now, anyone wanting to change the sprocket on their Rohloff Speedhub needed special tools and had to be careful when screwing them in so as not to damage the hub or injure themselves. Those days are over. From now on, a small slotted screwdriver is all you need to change the sprocket.

Rohloff sprockets: More variants and modified chainline

The rear drive sprocket can now simply be slid onto all Rohloff hubs and secured with a snap ring. To remove the sprocket, the ring is simply levered open with a small screwdriver. The sprocket can be turned or replaced in just a few seconds. The prices of the new Rohloff sprockets range from 13 euros (13 teeth) to 23 euros (21 teeth). The carrier adapter required for the conversion costs 30 euros.

The Rohloff plug-in sprockets are available with 13 to 19 and 21 teeth. The chainline of the plug-in sprockets has been increased to 58 mm (bolt-on sprockets: 54 mm). The chainline of the cranked pulley for the Gates Carbon Drive drive belt remains at 54.7 mm.

142 mm version and Boost adapter

The 142 mm version of the Rohloff Speedhub for thru axles will be available from June 2016, and demand has already been expressed for a Boost version (148 mm hub width). Rohloff is currently planning a solution using a retrofittable 6 mm wide adapter that is used on the drive side.

However, this means that the wheel has to be spoked slightly asymmetrically. However, according to Rohloff, the offset of 3 mm is not a problem if the spoke length has been calculated correctly beforehand, so no new spokes need to be fitted. Wheels with the Rohloff Speedhub gear hub are normally built symmetrically with the same spoke length on the left and right.
