The fundamental question of Shimano or Sram is also superfluous when retrofitting MTB chainrings. The teeth of the retrofit chainrings presented here bite into every chain.

1. 104 mm bolt circle (10x)
The 104 mm bolt circle is fitted to all Shimano and Sram 2/3x10 cranks and most 9-speed cranks. 104 mm is the most commonly used standard, even on most aftermarket cranks such as Raceface and FSA.
2nd Shimano 4-arm standard (11-speed)
The 4-arm standard from Shimano is used on all 11-speed cranks from the Asian company and is characterised by an asymmetrical 96 mm bolt circle. (Model numbers of the corresponding cranks: XT FC-M8000; XTR FC-M9000/9020)
3. sram 1-speed
In addition to the direct mount solution, all Sram 1x11 cranks can also be fitted with a conventional chainring spider for quick changes on the go. XX1 cranks then have a 76 mm bolt circle,
all others (XO1, X1, GX) have a 94 mm bolt circle.
4. direct mount
On many cranks, the chainring spider can be unscrewed and the chainring mounted directly on the crank (without intermediate bolting). Sram uses the GXP gearing for this. Raceface, E*13 and Hope have their own standard. Please note: Direct mount chainrings are available with three different chainlines: Standard, Boost & BB30.
