CyFly crank gearbox: Does it deliver 50 % more power?
The bicycle manufacturer Möve is designing its bikes around its Cyfly crankset. It is said to improve the power output fabulously, even though it is as heavy as an electric motor. Sensation or hocus-pocus?

There are things that attract inventors almost magically. The bicycle is one of them. The exposed mechanics tempt inventors of all levels to sharpen their pencils and, ideally, fire up the soldering torch. On the whole, this urge to develop has brought us fantastic things such as the mountain bike - but also some bizarre solutions in detail.

With the Cyfly system, Möve joins the ranks of inventors who claim to be able to revolutionise the step by means of mechanics. However, rarely has anyone gone so far out on a limb. Initially, the company promised 50 per cent more power. Today, it has become more cautious and advertises 40 per cent more torque. The core message remains the same: The Cyfly drive is designed to make cycling easier. Either by increasing speed or reducing effort. Depending on what the rider wants.

The Cyfly drive consists of short cranks that do not act directly on the bottom bracket shaft, but transmit the leg power supported by multiple joints.
