Correct care and maintenance for the Rohloff drivetrain
The Rohloff hub gear is considered indestructible. This is true - but only as long as it is treated correctly.

We explain wheel installation and removal, the correct chain tension and the most important adjustment tips here. If you know the few tricks, everything is very simple.

Rohloff's "Speedhub 500/14" shifts directly in the gearbox inside the hub shell. Two Bowden cables transmit the shifting commands, one cable shifts up for each direction of rotation, the other down. There are two versions of this cable control system: The one with internal cable control, in which the shift cables run directly into the hub, are anchored there and are coupled to the rotary shifter with bayonet catches. In this case, the last few centimetres of the cables run open and are therefore susceptible to dirt and corrosion. In the cable box variant, on the other hand, the cables run completely closed up to the cable box bolted to the hub axle, in which a small gearbox transmits the shift commands to the inside of the hub.
