Readers' question about the right frame height for mountain bikes

"I am 173 cm tall. What frame height do I need if I'm between two sizes?"

How to find the right mountain bike size

The decisive factor is the stride length. This is measured as follows: stand barefoot, place a spirit level between your legs and push it all the way up - into the water. The stride length is now the distance measured between the ground and the top edge of the spirit level. The appropriate frame size is listed in the table below. If you are between two sizes, it depends on the area of use: On long tours, a larger frame is more comfortable. A small, manoeuvrable frame is better if you are going downhill. If you are 173 centimetres tall, an 18-inch frame should fit. Always test ride in the shop!
