The new Ampler Curt Anyroad aims to take the benefits of lightweight, smart e-biking beyond the tarmac. How well does this work in practice?

Topics in this article

It rides well, is fun and simple, as we already found during last year's test of the Ampler Juna. The new Ampler Curt Anyroad also wants to score points on gravel and dirt tracks. There's also a stiff fork with a wide tyre passage and eyelets, small-profile tyres - and a 10-speed Advent X drivetrain from Microshift. The argument against the Anyroad's real suitability for everyday use has therefore been removed with the gears. As with the Juna, the frame is nice to look at and solidly made. Even though the handlebars are slightly curved, you sit dynamically.

The chassis geometry is well balanced, cornering and straight-line stability feel good and safe. After a short "numb" start on the pedals, the motor helps quietly, powerfully and harmoniously, but Ampler has not been able to give it the very last polish - compared to the Mivice-080 drive, for example - in its only two slightly different support modes. The fun largely stops on the climbs, where the 45 Newton metres in the hub become timid, even if you use the crisp gears diligently.

Ampler Curt Anyroad: fast everywhere

In principle, the 17-kilo bike can also be ridden without motor assistance. On gravel, we didn't like the very narrow mudguards, the off-road range of use is available, but rather limited. The discs (180 mm brake discs) do their job adequately, as does the front light from Busch and Müller with a full 80 lux and a pleasant light pattern. Smartness is an important factor for Ampler: if you register yourself and the bike in the app, you can access a number of additional functions via integrated GPS and GSM modules in the bike - from the locking function to individualised motor settings.

The promise: fun everywhere. As long as it's not muddy or too rough MTB terrain, it can be kept within certain limits for more sporty riders who are not too comfortable. A touring rider who doesn't like racing handlebars will find a gravel-light vehicle here (15 kg rack approval). However, the bike does not stand up well when loaded. Reason: the centre stand. Apart from that: broadly positioned and good. 3690 euros is a reasonable price for the bike considering the drive equipment.

Conclusion on the lightweight Ampler Curt Anyroad e-bike

Minimalist yet practical, not very comfortable, but sleek and smart: the Ampler Curt Anyroad has found its direction as an all-road commuter bike with smart high-tech safety features.
