Sønderjylland is waiting to be discovered just over the German-Danish border. It has a lot to offer: Nature, culture and plenty of fresh air. The cycle path network, which is more than 3,000 kilometres long, takes you through varied landscapes, historic trading towns, past unique beaches, beautiful castles and hilly landscapes along the Wadden Sea National Park. The UNESCO World Heritage Site accompanies you along the entire picturesque North Sea coastal route N1. It meanders mainly through dune and marshland landscapes, past blooming heathland and sheep grazing on the dykes. The route also takes you past several fjords and beautiful white sandy beaches - fresh sea air and space to switch off included.
Explore the border region and regional cuisine
Also discover the award-winning N8 Baltic Sea Cycle Route, which takes you through the cathedral city of Haderslev, the seafaring town of Aabenraa and historic Sønderborg along 140 of its 820 kilometres. Take the time to explore the impressive history of the border region, the culinary delights of southern Denmark and other unique attractions along the way. An absolute highlight for cycling holidaymakers this year is certainly the Tour de France. It runs through Sønderjylland on 3 July with Sønderborg as a stage finish.

Discover cross-border cycle paths
You can also experience the cross-border cycle routes, such as the "Flensburg-Fjord Route", which takes you 307 kilometres through the German-Danish border region via Aabenraa, Sønderborg and Flensburg. The route is divided into six stages so that it can be easily shortened and turned into a relaxed day trip. Each stage offers very special experiences: from marvellous flower worlds and wild nature to exciting excursions into the history of the border region. The "Ochsenweg" is also a cross-border cycle route. Here you can experience medieval churches, rune stones from the Viking Age, burial mounds and impressive nature. The Ox Trail stretches from Frederikshavn in the north to the German-Danish border in the south.
Unique experiences for cyclists
A highlight of the region is the bicycle ferry that takes you from Flensburg to Sønderjylland on the Als peninsula! Also visit our so-called "Bike Friends", a network of particularly bike-friendly hotels and bed & breakfast accommodation.
Take note of the "bike stations" that you will find along the cycle routes! Here you can take a break or use the air pump or tools to make some adjustments to your bike so that you can continue on your way without a care in the world.
