Participants from Germany, the Czech Republic and other neighbouring countries completed four stages in the Ore Mountains. The event kicked off on Thursday evening with the Dunkelwald Climb. This was followed by the Dunkelwald Marathon, the KAMM-BIKE-CROSS in Johanngeorgenstadt and the Dunkelwald Showdown – held for the first time – as the final stage. The new Showdown replaced the previous Erzgebirge cycle race.
The routes passed through the Rabenberg Trail Centre and combined flowing trails with challenging climbs. Both ambitious racers and amateur mountain bikers found suitable challenges. Participants could choose between a 30-kilometre route and a 60-kilometre route.
Irmscher and Bréhier dominate the men’s standings
Paul Irmscher of SSV Mounty Altenberg and Paul Logistik Racing secured overall victory in the men’s long-distance race. Elouan Bréhier of VC1899 Darmstadt and Fast Line Racing Team won the short-distance race. Anna-Lena Theisen from RSC Eifelland Mayen came out on top in the women’s classification. All three overall winners delivered consistently strong performances over the four days and received their trophies at the prize-giving ceremony.
A sense of community characterises the event
The chase through the Dark Forest offered more than just sporting competition. A group pasta party with a DJ, daily flower ceremonies and the leader’s jersey for those at the top of the overall standings were all part of the supporting programme. All riders who successfully completed the stages received a finisher’s T-shirt. The event once again raised funds for the ‘Kinderherzen’ charity, thereby supporting children and families from the region.
Germany’s only MTB stage race
The Treibjagd im Dunkelwald holds a special place as Germany’s only mountain bike stage race. Whilst stage races are well established internationally, this event in the Ore Mountains brings this race format right on our doorstep. The next edition will take place from 22 to 25 July 2027.
