World record attempt: 80 metre MTB jump from ski jump
Downhill pro Johannes Fischbach wanted to break the 80 metre mark in the MTB long jump and roared over the large ski jump in Klingenthal on his MTB. An attempt with a horror happy ending.

Johannes Fischbach had been harbouring the idea of making the longest jump in the world on an MTB for several years - in other words, a world record! During test jumps from an 85 metre ski jump, he achieved a remarkable distance of 50 metres. It looked good, the existing official record at the time was 42.11 metres.

Fischi then made a momentous decision: he wanted to "push it to the limit" and set himself a crazy goal: "If I can jump 50 metres from an 85-metre hill, then I must be able to jump much further on the 140-metre hill!"

It doesn't look like it, but Fischbach survived the horror crash pretty well - at least compared to what could have happened. Just one week later, he was back on the starting line at the German Downhill Championships. One final piece of advice was particularly important to him: "Don't try this on your own!" Yes, we agree. But so what.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
