Tom Caldwell is the producer of today's most popular and chaotic bike films. His speciality: raw MTB action from the heart of the British mountain bike scene. And that's exactly what his latest creation, The Firm, delivers - for 45 minutes!
"What is The Firm actually? Quite simply, it's a WhatsApp group. Guys with all sorts of backgrounds and stories - but that doesn't matter. We're all here to have fun before we get old and grumpy and end up with knackered knees. I think that's something you can look back on in 20 years and say, "Yeah, we had a bloody good time". With so many changes and uncertainties in the sport of MTB, this film focuses on the essentials and stresses that we should just call our friends and get the bikes out. You have to savour every moment with your friends because let's face it, things are changing and these times won't last forever. I've really put my heart and soul into this project over the last 15 months, and it's probably the most time and energy I've ever put into a project. 40, 50 days maybe? And I couldn't have done it without the guys and their monumental effort. So if you could do us a favour, grab a beer, press play and enjoy the chaos that ensues. These are our friends and our scene. This is The Firm - the film." - Tom Caldwell
It's been six (6!) months since Danny MacAskill uploaded a new video. And it was only two and a half minutes long... The last long YouTube videos - the "Back of the Postcards" series - were two years ago. Now the time has come, but We can only reveal a little about it in advance so farbecause neither Danny nor his sponsor Santa Cruz do.
But Trickster Danny was obviously on the lookout for new spots and has once again found some spectacular ones! Santa Cruz now says ahead of the premiere: "When he casually mentioned these three locations to us, we knew we had to send Jonny Ashworth and Dave Mackison out to document the process (on camera)."
Brage Vestavik's journey to the top of freeriding began in a small Norwegian village, where he built his first features out of rubble in the backyard as a young boy. Over the years, he took his burgeoning passion to the nearby forests and imitated freeride films from the New World Disorder era.
The results are now legendary and have Brage Vestavik has made him a world-renowned MTB pro for his daring creativity, tireless work ethic, talent for precision and his rough and powerful riding style.
But even now, with a Red Bull contract and almost 400,000 Instagram followers, he still spends his best days in the same woods, building, filming and shredding with friends. In the video, he takes you right there: home.
"We've been working on this film since April 2023. It's always a challenge to get a project like this off the ground, but I'm really enjoying the process. The idea behind Lost Paradise has always been to document freeride mountain biking in a way that inspires people to ride, build trails and have fun. This year I wanted to pay tribute to the North Shore freeride style. Just building these huge features was a thrill, but riding them was an absolute dream!" - Eliott Lapotre on the film Lost in Paradise
A biker watch list isn't a biker watch list without a clip from trail star Chris Akrigg. Our recommendation for January is: Hard Enduro RAW. For your information: Hard Enduro is a discipline of motorbike racing that combines all types of off-road riding. This includes technical trail elements as well as fast motocross interludes. And that's exactly what Akrigg tries to imitate with his e-bike in the video - with success!
