He made his debut as a blonde curly-haired rider, but Troy Brosnan is now regarded as one of the most hardened and experienced riders in the highly competitive Downhill World Cup. Although the big wins - four in total - have never been his greatest strength, Troy Brosnan has almost always stood on the podium over the last 15 years. Now the Australian is celebrating his 100th World Cup start.
Troy Brosnan breaks a milestone with his 100th Downhill Elite World Cup. A mark that only a few athletes achieve in this demanding discipline. In addition to pure physical fitness and stamina, many riders are also hampered by injuries.
Brosnan's career began with his elite debut in Fort William in 2010 and has spanned more than 15 years at the absolute top of the world. During this time, the Australian has achieved 39 podium finishes and four Elite World Cup victories. Just last year, he stood at the top of the podium in Mont-Sainte-Anne. To honour this extraordinary career milestone, Canyon and Troy Lee have put together a special race package for the anniversary start.
The centrepiece of the anniversary kit is a Canyon Sender CFR specially designed for the occasion. While Brosnan normally competes on a black Sender CFR Team, his downhill bike for the race in Les Gets has been given an eye-catching look in bright colours with a leo look and red accents. Troy received the bike shortly before the first training session in Les Gets on Thursday, so that the Australian was able to complete the first training runs on his anniversary bike. The elaborate design is not just limited to the frame - other components also received a special colour update, including his Crank Brothers Mallet DH pedals and the Rockshox Boxxer Ultimate suspension fork, which were perfectly colour-coordinated with the overall concept.
In addition to the specially designed bike, Brosnan's helmet sponsor Troy Lee Designs has also developed a radical race kit for the special occasion. The anniversary package emphasises the long-standing partnership between the Australian rider and his sponsors as well as the appreciation for his consistent performances at the highest level. The technical equipment of the anniversary bike corresponds to the usual high-end set-up with which Brosnan usually competes. The Canyon Sender CFR frame forms the basis for the racing machine and is complemented by a Rockshox Boxxer Ultimate fork and a Rockshox Vivid Coil Ultimate shock.
The World Cup race in Les Gets is not only a special highlight of the season because of Brosnan's anniversary, but also because the French course is one of the most demanding and traditional on the World Cup calendar. The challenging course with steep sections, root passages and big jumps demands everything from the riders and provides the perfect stage for Brosnan's anniversary race. Fans can follow Brosnan's reaction to his custom bike and kit on Canyon's Instagram channel, where further impressions and background stories about the anniversary will be shared.
