CEO and founder Markus Flossmann: "It was clear to me that if YT was to have a future, it had to get back to its roots."
The Forchheim-based bike mail order company YT Industries is starting afresh after its insolvency. CEO and now sole owner Markus Flossmann explains in an interview how this new start will succeed and what existing and future YT customers should know.

In July 2025, the financial crisis at YT Industries became apparent when the previous main shareholder, an anonymous private equity investor, announced that it would stop financing the company. This decision prompted the management to initiate insolvency proceedings under self-administration, which opened up a three-month window for the search for new investors.

Flossmann, who founded YT Industries in 2008, commented on the search for external investors with the words: "Unfortunately, the proposals offered were an absolute joke and not to be taken seriously." These circumstances led him to decide to buy back the company himself. We asked CEO Markus Flossmann the most important questions.

Interview Markus Flossmann: Back to the roots

BIKE: You bought back YT. Do you now own the label alone?

Markus Flossmann: Yes, YT now belongs to me personally again. I have taken over the brand rights and key assets of the old company from the insolvency and founded the new Young Talent Industries GmbH. This makes me the sole owner for the first time in the company's history. In the future, I plan to bring a strategic minority investor on board, but the control and direction will clearly remain with me.

How do you want to save your brand?

How do you like this article?

It was clear to me that if YT was to have a future, it had to get back to its roots. We are starting with a small, motivated core team that brings passion instead of overheads. The focus is on product, service and community - in other words, on what YT has grown up with. No unnecessary ballast, but honest work and a direct line to the customer.

Connoisseurs of the scene claim that there will still be many bike brands that don't offer the full range of entry-level bikes, affordable e-bikes and racing bikes. What makes you so confident?

I don't believe that size and a broad product range automatically mean stability. The industry has become bloated over the years. We prefer to focus on a clear identity rather than breadth. YT has never stood for "everything for everyone", but for passion, performance and genuine spirit. That's exactly what we want to live consistently again. This appeals to riders - not market segments.

What went wrong, what do you want to do better?

Above all, it was the overambitious growth targets of the main owner, which, together with a sharply increased cost structure, no longer fitted the current economic reality of the industry. The reaction to this was far too late. The result was a company that had become too big, too complex and too sluggish. Now we are turning this around: lean processes, quick decisions and an organisation that once again consists of entrepreneurial spirit instead of bureaucracy.

YT Industries came, saw and won: not only in magazine tests, but also in terms of marketing. For example, YT ran this advert for months, which caused everyone to rub their chins. What will happen to the models previously offered - will they be available again in the future?

Yes, many of our models such as Capra, Jeffsy and Decoy will return. But we are revising them step by step. No quick fix - quality comes before speed. Some platforms will remain, others will be completely redeveloped.

Will existing bikes be sold?

The new company has taken over the remaining stock. These bikes are offered regularly via our webshop - naturally with full warranty and service via the new Young Talent Industries GmbH.

When, where and how can you order YT bikes again?

The restart is planned for mid-November. From then on, sales will once again take place via our website yt-industries.com. The initial focus will be on processing open customer orders from the old company that have not yet received a bike. After that, the entire range will be available again.

What about the warranty?

The new Young Talent Industries GmbH assumes the complete guarantee and warranty obligation for all YT customers - regardless of whether the bike was purchased before or after the restart. We stand by our products and want every customer to be able to rely on our service.

Can I still get spare parts for the previous models?

Yes, we will make spare parts available for all current models. We have taken over many components and are also building up new supply chains to ensure that our customers remain supplied in the long term.

With a few exceptions, YT bikes have always been a source of joy for us BIKE testers. Is it true that all employees were made redundant?

Unfortunately, all old employment contracts had to be terminated in the course of the insolvency proceedings. However, many employees from the old team are already back on board. Unfortunately, we were not able to take them all on, but we hope to build up the team further in the coming months and bring back more of the old YT family.

What kind of core team are you starting with again?

With a small, passionate core team of experienced people who really live YT - people who are ready to take responsibility and rebuild the spirit, from product development to customer service.

Until now, YT = cool image, good products, fair price. Can you take this idea further, or are you realigning the brand differently?

Absolutely. That has always been the foundation of YT - and it remains so. We want to continue to offer uncompromising bikes at honest prices and be a brand with attitude and character. At the same time, YT has evolved in recent years. We have grown up without losing our roots. For us, this means strong products, a clear brand message and a genuine brand experience - on and off the trail.
