Rob J is well-known in Germany's mountain bike scene. As a dirt jumper, freerider, event organiser and youth promoter, he has been successfully involved in his sport for years. He has a lot to thank him for. He himself was born in Freeride youth camp He now organises it himself and passes on his experience to the kids.
His own childhood was anything but sheltered. He never knew his father. After the death of his mother, he was sent to an orphanage at the age of eight. From then on, he struggled through life alone on his bike. His desire to make his mother proud keeps him on the right path. Bavarian television now tells the moving life story of Rob J - whose real name is Robert Jauch - in the documentary film "Fliegen ohne Flügel" (Flying without wings) from the series "Lebenslinien" (Lifelines).
"Bavarian television approached me through the orphanage where I grew up as a child. In an earlier documentary about orphans, they had mostly only heard "tragic" development stories. But the Gerhardinger House in Kempten had told them about my positive development - thanks to cycling. So the Lebenslinien author Andrea Asch approached me and made the film with me. We filmed some of the stages of my life over the last six months. In Prague, where I was born, in Kempten, where I grew up, in the bike shop where my mountain bike career began and up until today in my new role as a father.
The result is an exciting story. It was also quite emotional for me to see it all in "only" 45 minutes. But I hope it's also an inspiring story for other kids who might grow up in similar circumstances. The bike and the dream of turning my hobby into a career kept me on the right path. Enjoy the documentary.
Greetings,
your ROB"
