The eMTB Challenge supported by Trek is not just about the motor. The bikers also have to deliver a strong performance in the special stages.

At the eMTB Challenge at the BIKE Festival Willingen it's not just the bikes that are energised. To keep the excitement high among the participants, route planner Volker Schröder has come up with a new route around Willingen for this edition. "More flowy and not so hard, just for anyone who likes to ride an e-MTB," is how he describes the new route.

However, Schröder has not completely erased the really tricky stages from the route plan for the Advanced starting group. Depending on the category, there are up to six special stages to tackle. In between, you can casually and relaxedly drift from stage to stage with your mates. But once you get there, all the voltage regulators are ramped up again.

"Young and old, experienced and inexperienced, male or female will have a great time at the eMTB Challenge. Take part, only then will you know what I'm talking about." - Kathi Kuypers, Trek Gravity Girl

eMTB Challenge in Willingen: Important rules

In this challenge, the starters are divided into two categories: eMTB Rider Amateur and eMTB Rider Advanced. The Advanced category may include one more special stage. There is no training. There is only a route map at the start. The order of the landmarks and stages must be adhered to. All landmarks must be approached. Time is only taken on the stages, and there are also no-feet zones on the uphill stages. Putting your foot down once costs ten seconds. Helmets are compulsory and additional protective equipment such as gloves and knee pads are strongly recommended.
