Cycling with your idol: that’s what’s on the programme at the BIKE Festival in Leogang.
On the second day of the BIKE Festival in Saalfelden Leogang, there was a packed programme: bike park laps with Elias Schwärzler, Lukas Knopf and co., the Vpace Kids Cup, trial demonstrations and loads of test bikes.

Day 2 of the Saalfelden-Leogang BIKE Festival was the highlight of the event. The weather couldn’t have been better. Day 2 kicked off with temperatures of 22 degrees and 10 hours of sunshine. Just like the day before, visitors were able to hire test bikes from brands such as Atherton Bikes, Scott and others, and try them out straight away in the bike park.

Trial rider Thomas Klausner wowed festival-goers with his stunt performances at the Expo. The presenter pulled quite a few quiet observers out of the crowd, who then had to act as obstacles for Thomas. Slopestyle riders and idols Lukas Knopf and Elias Schwärzler took what felt like 200 selfies each with fans today. As well as taking selfies and signing autographs, the two cycling celebrities were also on hand today as riding technique experts for the children and teenagers. Both were out and about with festival-goers on the HotShots and other trails.

The little ones are the stars! DVPACE Kids Cup

Festival Saturday is all about the next generation: at the VPace Kids Cup, more than a hundred children in various age groups took to the start line on a short downhill course above the valley station.

The Kids Cup is the racing series for cycling enthusiasts aged between five and ten – the perfect way to gain their first racing experience and get to know competitive cycling in a relaxed atmosphere. After the race numbers have been handed out, the programme includes a welcome, a riders’ meeting and a group track walk. Then it’s time to check the bikes, familiarise yourselves with the course and practise hard. And then it’s down to business – the starting beep sounds!

Depending on the age group, there are two small competitions in which technique and downhill skills are put to the test.

Above all, it’s about one thing: having fun together. Meeting new cycling friends, going full throttle, trying out new things and, whilst you’re at it, getting a taste of competition. Because at the Kids Cup, everyone’s a winner – and the three fastest riders get to celebrate winning gold, silver and bronze as well.

The HotShots and the Airbag with Lukas

YouTuber and professional slopestyle rider Lukas Knopf took the plunge into the airbag again today with a whole host of children and teenagers. Lukas shared tips and tricks for their first manoeuvres. Most of the time, however, the YouTuber was taking selfies with fans.

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
