The Enduro race is the sporting highlight of the BIKE Festivals in Willingen. This is the only place where the coveted jerseys with the black, red and gold stripes are awarded. And of course, this highly official race status as the German Championship gives the Enduro competition a special status. However, amateur riders should not be intimidated by this. The routes are therefore no more challenging than they would be without the title fights.
In any case, Willingen is considered a comparatively flowing trail area. And anyone who can manoeuvre their bike smoothly and safely along the trails in the forest can take part here. There is hardly a better place to ride your first enduro race. Especially as everyone can get used to the routes during training. And finally define your own ambitions.
The goal for the top riders was of course clear: they wanted to knock Raphaela Richter and Christian Textor, the two reigning champions, off the DM throne. So it was already exciting in the run-up to the race. In the end, they didn't succeed. Raphaela Richter once again took the lead in the women's race with a lead of over 48 seconds, followed by Helen Weber. Sofia Wiedenroth secured third place. Christian Textor also defended his DM title again, this time against his rivals Petrik Kardinar and Torben Drach. All results of the races in Willingen can be found at willingen.bike-festival.de >>
So the new and old enduro champion has obviously found the secret recipe with his race tactics. When we asked him for his tips before the race, Christian Textor told us: "Eat and drink enough right from the start, concentrate on your own ability and have fun. Take a deep breath before the stages and stay focussed. Offer help to others if necessary and preferably enjoy the race with a few riders as a group. A coffee and cake stop on the training day is also very important."
