The “Lake.Bike Trail Centre” at Lake Faaker See in Carinthia is definitely worth the longer journey to the southern side of the Alps. The range of trails there is growing every year and has now even merged with the neighbouring trail centre at Lake Ossiach.
There was plenty for participants at the fourth Bucketride Festival on Lake Faaker See to discover whilst in the saddle. The programme had something for everyone, from the very youngest riders on balance bikes to a leisurely trail ride for the grandfather who’d come along. The highlight, of course, was the group train ride along the 2.2-kilometre-long Flowgartner Trail, which all the adult participants joined in.
The fact that 148 people voluntarily ride the same trail one after the other, rather than doing their own thing, says it all about this festival and its community, says organiser Roman Beckord.
Roman Beckord was clearly delighted that the weather had been so good this year. Life at the camp was a relaxed experience right by the lake. Yoga at sunrise, workshops on the lawn, the kids were able to let off steam on the pump track all day long, and dinner could be served outside. Even the lake was still warm enough for a swim.
There was also a musical highlight on the programme: the Munich-based indie-folk band House of Leaves played by the campfire until well after sunset, and the Bavarian Outdoor Film Festival (B/O/F/F) held a special screening.
