Sharp, shake-free images are expected from an action cam. Even on a rough downhill descent. The camera should also not be large and heavy so that it does not get in the way when being carried. The US manufacturer Insta360 has been trying to combine these features since 2015. With the latest creation, the Insta360 GO2the Americans claim to have created a milestone in terms of performance and compactness.
This is how little the tiny, white Insta360 camera is supposed to weigh and still deliver sharp, shake-free images and POV recordings. Thanks to the minimalist design and low weight, the biker should not even notice the GO2. The Special stabilisation and the horizon levelling algorithms absorb any bumps, shaking and swaying. Recording can be easily started and stopped using a button on the front.
The sponge-shaped GO2 comes with a number of adapters, such as the magnetic pendant for wearing on the chest and the Easy-Clip for caps and helmet visors. It also comes with a Charging cradle which not only serves as a power bank when travelling, but is also a remote control, tripod and handle for selfie shots in one. The remote control works up to a distance of around ten metres, making the self-timer superfluous. If you want to use a longer selfie stick or a separate tripod, you can screw on the GO2 through the ¼" threaded hole.
Waterproof the GO2 is said to be up to four metres deep. Practical in case it rains or on a surfing holiday. It happens quickly: The cam falls onto a stone and the lens is scratched. Luckily, the Insta360 has a scratch-resistant coating for precisely this case. Lens protection made of tempered glass, which can be easily replaced. The lens protection can also be optionally replaced with an ND filter to achieve balanced colours and contrasts even on the brightest days.
The Ultra-wide field of vision The GO2 is also designed to capture expansive landscape shots at 120 degrees. For quick changes from the first-person perspective, the 110° ActionView be attractive for bikers. Up to four times the slow motion and six times the speed should be possible with the GO2 and its 120 frames per second. Image processing and further operation are carried out via the corresponding smartphone app.
The small action camera should be able to film for 30 minutes on a single charge. With a charging cradle, the recording time is extended to up to 150 minutes. The GO2 has six video modes: basic stabilisation, FlowState, HDR, slow motion, time-lapse and time-shift. The Insta360 GO2 comes with a multifunctional charging cradle, magnetic pendant, Easy-Clip, a swivel mount and a lens protector. 319,99 Euro and is e.g. at Amazon or Otto available immediately.
If an Insta360 should ever break down, it previously had to be sent to Hong Kong for repair. This is changing this year. Because Solectric from near Heidelberg is now an official repair partner of Insta360. Only for the GO2 presented here will it still take some time before the latest offspring can be repaired in Germany.
