The Cube Peak Pro was developed for gravel, cyclocross and marathon cyclists. The shoe is therefore designed to meet a wide range of requirements. How does it manage this? We were impressed during our test by the combination of everyday practicality, comfort and power transfer promised by Cube. The Ergo insole, in particular, ensures a soft feel inside the shoe, whilst the rubber outsole really comes into its own when you’re off the bike. Despite its comfort features, power transfer through the pedal is excellent. The stiff, glass-fibre-reinforced nylon outsole helps to transfer pressure to the pedal. At the same time, it offers sufficient comfort and grip when you’re off the bike.
Cube uses two twist fasteners on each shoe to ensure a quick fit and a secure hold. The upper, made from PU and ripstop fabric, is designed for durability. A reinforced toe box and a sturdy heel counter protect the areas subject to the most wear and tear. Inside, the NF Ergonomics insole provides cushioning and distributes pressure evenly around the foot. This is particularly comfortable on longer walks or when you’re on the move a lot.
The Cube Peak Pro is a reliable companion for all kinds of rides. We were particularly impressed during our test by the high-quality build, the comfortable sole both on and off the bike, and the easy adjustment via the two twist locks. - Maik Schröder, BIKE editor
In our test, we tried size 46. The shoe fits comfortably around the foot and can be adjusted to the right fit using the two twist fasteners. The shoe can be adjusted simply by turning the fasteners. If you turn them in the opposite direction, you can easily loosen the laces and slip the shoe off. During the test, the ease of use of the Cube lacing system was a particular highlight.
The adage ‘the stiffer, the better’, which is common with road cycling shoes, cannot be applied directly to gravel shoes. Whilst a rock-hard carbon sole transmits every twitch of the calf to the pedal without any loss, the constant vibrations from the gravel are also passed on to the feet unfiltered.
With the Cube Peak Pro, a (necessary) compromise has been struck between comfort and performance. During our test ride, we were impressed by the power transfer between the shoe and the pedal. The foot is securely held in the shoe, yet it doesn’t feel constricted. Despite its stiff sole, the shoe feels comfortable and remains pleasant on the foot even after prolonged wear.
The Cube Peak Pro gravel shoe stands out for its high-quality build. The upper is neatly bonded to the sole. The cleats were easy to fit and stay securely in the rail. The shoe feels well-made and gives the impression of being a reliable companion for any ride and in any weather.
Off the bike, the Cube Peak Pro feels pleasant and comfortable, and it fits almost like a normal shoe. It’s great for walking, and the rubberised soles are the only slight drawback – there’s a bit of slippage at the heel – but you don’t notice this at all whilst cycling or pedalling.
