Insulated drinking bottles promise a warming sip in cold times. Or vice versa. We tested five models for bikers*.

Water as far as the eye can see. But when it's frozen, bikers stay thirsty. Insulation helps against the ice age in the water bottle (*All bottles were filled with 55-degree water. With an outside temperature of seven degrees, we measured how much the water cooled down for two and a half hours.)

BBB Thermotank

The BBB bottle is smaller (nominally 500 ml capacity) and lighter than the competition. It insulates just as poorly as the Zéfal and Rose models. Its large bite valve is easy to open with your teeth and the flow rate is also good.
Price: 19,95 Euro
Volume: 600 ml

Camelbak Podium Ice

At the end of the test, the drink in the Camelbak bottle was a convincing seven degrees warmer than that of the plastic competition. The valve is large, even when open nothing leaks out and it can be dismantled for cleaning. A clear test winner, but not the biggest.
Price: 24,95 Euro
Volume: 650 ml

Elite Deboyo

The stainless steel thermos bottle is in a different league when it comes to insulation, but it is not convincing as a bike drinking bottle: no air flows through the valve, you suck desperately. Fortunately, the manufacturer includes a conventional screw cap.
Price: 29,90 Euro
Volume: 520 ml

Rose Polar Bottle

You shouldn't be travelling to the Arctic Circle with the Rose Haus brand bottle, as it also allows the heat to escape generously. The classic bite cap releases enough liquid. Tip: drink quickly before the contents get cold.
Price: 12,95 Euro
Volume: 705 ml

Zéfal Arctica Pro

Lots of volume paired with little insulation. The Arctica Pro loses about 30 degrees of liquid temperature within 2.5 hours (like BBB and Rose). The valve is not quite as generous when open as others, but these are only nuances.
Price: 14,95 Euro
Volume: 755 ml
