There are farming sayings that everyone knows. And there are those that are only familiar to a few, but are nevertheless true. Want an example? Dirt belongs under the studs and not in the eye. Experienced bikers know what we're talking about: Whether it's a splash of mud, a speck of dust or a pebble, nothing like that should get in your eye. Otherwise an injury is inevitable. Be it to the eye or due to a fall because you can't see for a moment. To avoid this, we recommend always wearing glasses when cycling. But if you decide to buy a pair of glasses, you are spoilt for choice: one pair for good weather and one for bad weather? One with interchangeable lenses? Or one for everything? We opted for a pair of glasses that are suitable for all weathers. For the Uvex Sportstyle 802 v. How is that possible? With self-tinting lenses. The technology responsible for this is called Uvex Variomatic.
The Sportstyle 802 changes hands in five different colours for 100 euros. It has a frame that opens downwards. This not only looks dynamic, but is also noticeable on the scales: The 802 weighs just 21 grams. This means that the glasses are very comfortable to wear and do not get in the way. In addition to the low weight, the rubberised nose pads and temples also contribute to a wobble-free fit. The Uvex glasses can also be easily adapted to different head and nose shapes. But the real highlight is the Variomatic lenses. They adjust according to brightness so that the wearer is never dazzled and is never left in the dark. A tint from S0 (clear lens for bad weather, night) to S3 (very sunny) is possible. This range was perfectly adequate for us, whether in bad weather on the Isar trails or in glorious weather in the mountains. The lenses only need 25 seconds to darken from S0 to S3, but significantly longer to lighten. The lenses are therefore unable to compensate for the transition between light and shadow, but rather adapt roughly to the light conditions. The glasses also tend to have a "blotchy" tint if, for example, a lump of dirt is wiped off. This tarnishes the otherwise very positive impression, because even after countless uses, the lenses are still scratch-free. Fogging has also never been a problem. The goggles provide very good protection from the wind, but occasionally splashes of dirt get into the eye from below.
The Uvex Sportstyle 802 v is a reliable all-rounder with take-charge qualities, whatever the weather and whatever the application. The Variomatic lenses tint somewhat slowly and only roughly adapt to the light conditions.
