Oakley and tech giant Meta have announced a collaboration to bring a new category of AI sports eyewear to the market. The Oakley Meta glasses combine Oakley's characteristic design with Meta's technology. According to the manufacturer, the glasses will provide information about physical performance and help to share sporting successes.

The new product line will be unveiled as part of a global campaign featuring Team Oakley athletes, including superstars such as Kylian Mbappé and Patrick Mahomes. Caio Amato, Global President of Oakley, explains: "Together with Meta, we are pushing the boundaries of reality - it's not just about enhancing performance, it's about expanding human potential like never before."

Oakley Meta HSTN: Smart glasses for technology nerds

The first model in the new line is called Oakley Meta HSTN and combines a striking design with state-of-the-art technology. The glasses have an integrated camera that allows users to film hands-free and share their perspective. Powerful open-ear speakers are also integrated into the frame. According to the manufacturer, the battery life is up to eight hours with typical use. An included charging case is said to provide up to 48 hours of additional charging time. The camera records videos in Ultra HD 3K resolution, which means higher image quality than Full HD (1080p).

AI assistant from Meta with voice control

A key feature of the Oakley Meta HSTN is the integrated AI assistant Meta AI. This is designed to help athletes get the best out of their glasses. As an example, the manufacturer mentions the option of using voice commands to ask about current wind conditions in order to optimise the golf game. Hands-free recording and sharing of videos on social media should also be possible via voice control. According to Oakley, the AI assistant can answer a variety of questions, such as training optimisation or surfing conditions.
