With the Essential Bib Kit M Gonso has positioned a versatile pair of bib shorts for ambitious leisure riders and sporty touring bikers. The focus is clearly on comfort, function and a wide range of uses - from after-work rides to longer weekend rides.
The trousers have a close-fitting, but not overly compressive fit. The stretchy functional material moulds neatly to the body, but remains flexible enough for long days in the saddle. The bib construction is classic: soft, flat and without pressure points - even when the rider is leaning forwards.
The material scores with good breathability and pleasant moisture management. In warmer conditions in particular, the material ensures that perspiration is quickly transported to the outside and keeps you feeling dry.
At the heart of every bib is the padding - and here Gonso delivers a solid solution for medium to long distances. The seat pad is ergonomically shaped, sufficiently dense and at the same time not too bulky. It therefore offers noticeable comfort on the road as well as on moderate gravel or forest trails.
The seams are deliberately reduced and neatly finished to minimise friction. Combined with the flat leg hems, the result is a very harmonious overall feel.
Gonso deliberately avoids bells and whistles - instead, the features concentrate on the essentials. This suits riders who are looking for uncomplicated, reliable trousers without unnecessary extras.
| Grade | |
| Wearing comfort (40%) | 2,4 |
| Seat cushion (30%) | 3,0 |

| Quality (10%) | 2,5 |
| BIKE NOTE | 2,7 |
The Gonso trousers made a positive impression overall in the test. The pleasantly soft, opaque fabric and the neatly finished seams are evidence of solid quality. The waistband sits at a normal height on the body, while the wide leg cuffs keep the trousers reliably in place - although this is at the expense of comfort when putting them on.
In terms of fit, the model is rather tight: the trousers are a little tight, especially at the top. Taller and stronger riders over 1.80 metres would therefore be better advised to go up a size. At first glance, the padding may seem a little bulky and not very dimensionally stable, but on the bike it offers a good fit and decent comfort.
A clear plus point: the pee break is pleasantly uncomplicated and without acrobatic interludes. Another strong point: the wide range of sizes. With options up to 6XL, Gonso appeals to a particularly wide range of riders - which is anything but a matter of course.
