Editor’s Choice: (Almost) my favourite item: The Maloja MarokkaM Enduro trousers have one drawback

BIKE testers get to try out a wide range of products, whether they’re wheels, rucksacks or gloves. Only by comparing them can you tell whether a product really ranks amongst the best. BIKE editor Laurin is testing the enduro trousers Marokka M. von Maloja It’s been almost a year. He values it and would even call it his favourite piece – were it not for that one flaw.

As comfortable as a pair of jogging bottoms

Just how comfortable can a pair of cycling trousers be? These slightly water-repellent enduro trousers, with 4-way stretch and an adjustable waistband, are as comfortable as a pair of jogging bottoms for a night in front of the telly. Basically, they look just like that too, except the fabric is a bit more robust and not quite as cosy as your after-work trousers. Knee pads fit easily under the trousers, and there’s no need for a belt – that’s where the elasticated waistband with drawstring comes in. There’s a Velcro strap at the ankle for anyone who prefers a snug fit at the leg opening.

Maloja MarokkaM. Almost Perfect

I found myself reaching for these trousers more and more often because they were so comfortable. Whether I was commuting or out on a proper enduro ride, the MarokkaM. performed reliably and showed no signs of material fatigue. Dirt brushed off easily or washed out.

Favourite trousers? Almost. There’s one drawback.

Now comes the “buuuut”. These trousers have what it takes to be my favourite pair, but there’s just one annoying detail: the lack of zipped pockets. Yes, they do have pockets – two of them, in fact. And nothing has ever fallen out, even on bumpy stretches – but that nagging feeling that my smartphone or keys might rattle out of my pockets in the bike park or on alpine trails has lingered.

A really comfortable product. Lightweight, breathable and sturdy enough. However, the lack of zips on the two side pockets is a real drawback. I was constantly worried that something might fall out of the pockets – even though nothing ever actually did. Please sort this out, dear Maloja trouser makers.
