The touchscreen-compatible inserts on the index and middle fingers are very practical. You can operate your smartphone or GPS device without taking off your gloves. The soft fleece insert on the thumb is also a great feature, as it can be used to wipe your nose whilst out and about.

The long cuff is likely a matter of personal preference. It is slightly longer than on many classic trail gloves. Whilst this doesn’t cause any problems when riding, it isn’t one of the model’s standout features. On the plus side: despite the lack of a Velcro fastening, the glove fits securely and is easy to put on.

Grip and control on the trail

When it comes to grips and brake levers, Hestra strikes a convincing balance between flexibility and grip. The glove provides sufficient grip for challenging trail sections, whilst maintaining very direct feedback from the handlebars.

Drivers who place great importance on precise braking control and an unadulterated feel for the handlebars will particularly appreciate the Race Cut. Rather than thick padding, Hestra consistently prioritises control and contact with the bike.

The unusual finger construction takes a bit of getting used to at first, but once you’ve got used to them, the gloves fit almost perfectly. Anyone looking for maximum padding or additional protective padding will need to look elsewhere. However, if you’re after an extremely comfortable, high-performance glove for trail, marathon, XC or gravel riding and are prepared to pay the high price, the Hestra is a genuine premium glove.
