The first generation of the Veolo trailer already attracted a lot of attention and was honoured with a Design & Innovation Award, among others. The developers - centred around founder Johann Schmidt - used the time that followed for a targeted revision. The result: the Trailer 2.0 was rethought from the ground up. Instead of a classic transport trailer, the focus is now on a modular system designed to cover a wide range of applications - from bikepacking and everyday transport to off-road use.
The main difference to the first generation lies in its structure as a Modular system. Various attachments and kits enable different configurations:
These modules can be added to or exchanged as required. This means that the trailer is evolving from a fixed solution to a kind of modular system.
Despite its focus on versatility, the trailer has a clearly sporty design. The frame consists of Aluminium (AL6061) and weighs just 6.7 kilogrammes. According to the manufacturer, this makes the Veolo one of the lightest suspended trailers in its class. At the same time, the maximum payload is up to 60 kilograms - a ratio that clearly favours versatility and suitability for everyday use. The platform itself is also new: Instead of a fixed aluminium tub, a Textile charging insert which saves weight and can be stowed away more compactly when not in use.
A central feature of the Veolo remains the Independent wheel suspension. Each wheel works separately with an elastomer suspension system that is round 45 mm spring travel offers. The aim is to provide a quieter system, better traction and controlled riding behaviour - even on poor roads or trails.
In addition, a Low centre of gravity of the load ensures that the trailer remains stable even when cornering and moves as unobtrusively as possible behind the bike. To prevent the Trailer 2.0 from tipping over even in fast bends, the position of the 20-inch wheels has been adjusted and the centre of gravity lowered. According to the manufacturer, the load sits 16 cm above the ground and 10 cm below the wheel axle.
When it comes to handling, Veolo favours simple solutions:
The trailer should not only be easy to couple thanks to the one-handed coupling, but also uncomplicated to use in everyday life - for example when switching between sports and transport use.
The trailer is particularly interesting due to the different superstructures:
Price: 650 Euro RRP (Early-Bird: from approx. 490 € in crowdfunding)
The Veolo Trailer 2.0 pursues an approach that has rarely been consistently realised in the bike segment to date: the bike trailer as a sporty, integrated extension rather than a pure means of transport.
The combination of low weight, suspension and modular design looks logical on paper - especially for riders who use their bike both in everyday life and on tours. The clear focus on off-road and performance use is striking.
The first version of the Veolo Trailer has already impressed us in the test. Whether the new concept works in practice remains to be seen, especially when it comes to handling on demanding terrain. However, the approach of covering different areas of use with a modular system could be right on target - especially for riders who switch between trail, everyday and adventure.
