When the alpine experts from Simond (Decathlon) tackle the subject of "Ultralight", mountaineers usually sit up and take notice. But the latest stroke of genius from Chamonix is now making the bikepacking scene sit up and take notice. The ultralight tent, down quilt and insulated air mattress are said to be ideal for gravel adventures with minimal luggage. We have tested how the new ultralight equipment could revolutionise your next multi-day tour in the saddle.

Anyone who has ever tried to heave a fully packed gravel bike over a carrying passage in the Alps knows that every gram counts. While we pay meticulous attention to the weight of frames, gears and the like, camp equipment is often unnecessarily overloaded. This is where Simond comes in. Originally developed for extreme expeditions, the new Ultralight series is now ending up in bikepacking bags all over the country.

When alpine technology goes into the saddlebag

The centrepiece of the new collection is extremely small packable equipment that should sweeten the night for bikepackers in particular. Ultralight tents, down quilts and sleeping mats are designed to reduce the packing volume in your backpack or frame bag to a minimum.

Dyneema trekking tent: the 510-gram miracle

If you want to pack down to the size of a 1.5 litre bottle (30x10 cm) when bikepacking, you normally end up with extremely narrow bivy sacks. Simond breaks this rule with the new Dyneema tarp tent. Thanks to the use of high-tech DCF (Dyneema Composite Fabric), the tent is not only outrageously light (510 g), but also absolutely dimensionally stable. While silnylon tents often sag in the rain and have to be tightened, the Dyneema fabric remains taut.

  • The bikepacking advantage: Tested in the wind tunnel up to 70 km/h and equipped with a water column of up to 20,000 mm at the bottom, it offers real protection when the weather changes in the mountains. It is actually set up with two trekking poles - if you are cycling without poles, you can simply use two lightweight spare poles, which Simond also has in its range, or cleverly clamp it between the bike and tree. Available from May 2026 for 749.99 euros.

The down quilt Trekking Sprint 0 °C: Maximum freedom

A quilt is the logical next step for ultralight fans. As the down in the back of a sleeping bag is flattened anyway (and therefore hardly insulates), the quilt simply leaves this part out. This saves a lot of weight and volume. With 900 cuin bulk density (RDS goose down), the Sprint 0 °C achieves a warmth-to-weight ratio that is unrivalled in this price range (299.99 euros >> available here) is rare.

  • The bikepacking advantage: The open construction offers significantly more freedom of movement than a tight mummy - a blessing for side sleepers. Thanks to two fastening straps, the quilt is connected directly to the sleeping pad, so there are no cold bridges. Weighing just 640 g (size L), it fits effortlessly into the smallest handlebar roll.

The MT900 insulated air mattress: four-season comfort

Nothing ruins the next stage like a sleepless night. The MT900 air mattress is equipped with 9 cm thickness a real comfort statement against roots and stones. The highlight, however, is the R-value of 5.4. This means that the mat provides reliable insulation even if you bivouac in late autumn or early spring when the ground freezes.

  • The bikepacking advantage: Despite its high insulation performance, it weighs only 570 g (net) and can be compressed to 11x28 cm. Particularly clever for tired legs: The anti-slip coating ensures that you don't slip off the mat at night when your campsite is on a slope. Available in L (129,99 Euro >> available here) and XL (139,99 Euro >> available here).

Our conclusion:

Simond is successfully poaching in the territory of high-end outdoor brands. For bikepackers who want to put their system on a diet without completely blowing the budget for their next bike holiday, the Ultralight equipment is a real statement.
