Tatonka EDC Pack 23 BC: Organisation made to measure

Velcro instead of chaos: The new Tatonka EDC Pack 23 BC offers a flexible interior for anyone who doesn’t just want to cram their day rucksack full. With a capacity of 23 litres, you can organise your tools, clothes, electronics and bits and bobs to suit your needs. The rucksack weighs 965 grams, costs 125 euros and is available in Stone, Grey, Olive and Black.

The highlight is on the inside: the main compartment opens fully via a full-length zip, revealing generous Velcro and MOLLE surfaces. Matching pouches with hook-and-loop backing can be attached exactly where they’re needed. There are also hook-and-loop panels on the front and back of the exterior, for example for additional organisers.

Sturdy case, comfortable back

In terms of materials, Tatonka uses Cordura 500 polyamide, whilst the base is made from 420 HD nylon FD. This is designed to make the EDC Pack 23 BC robust enough for everyday use, the commute and outdoor activities.

The Padded Back carrying system ensures comfort. A height-adjustable chest strap keeps the rucksack secure whilst on the move. Two carrying handles offer different carrying options, one of which can be removed if required. Additional kit can be secured using gear loops at the base and on the front.

Good to know: The water-repellent treatment is free from PFCs and PFAS. There is also a modular attachment system on the front, to which bags with a MOLLE system can be attached.

Waterproof compartment, visibility and space for bulky kit

Two zipped pockets on the front allow for quick access. The lower of the two is designed as a wet compartment and is covered by an openwork fastening system with laser-cut cut-outs. Handy for wet clothes, dirty shoes or anything else that’s best kept separate from the rest.

A reversible panel provides greater visibility when needed: one side is neon-coloured, the other reflective. There is a 10 x 5-centimetre Velcro patch area on the front for attaching patches.

The side pockets aren’t just an afterthought either: one features a zipped expansion panel, whilst the other can accommodate bulky items such as a hatchet. The back panel is also designed to accommodate the laptop sleeve, which is available as an optional extra. Price: 35 euros.

EDC Organisation Set: four pouches, total control

Anyone wishing to make the most of the Velcro concept should opt for the EDC Organisation Set. It consists of four pockets and two compression straps and is designed to fit the EDC Pack 23 BC perfectly. However, it should also work in any other rucksack with suitable Velcro surfaces. All pockets have a hook-and-loop backing, allowing them to be positioned freely on the loop surfaces.

The adjustable compression straps also feature hook-and-loop fastenings. The set weighs 315 grams, is made from Microrip 2.1 polyamide and is also PFC- and PFAS-free treated.

Laptop sleeve for the mobile workplace

There’s something to suit every laptop, tablet and other device Laptop Sleeve. The fully padded case protects laptops up to 15 inches in size, measures 39 x 27 x 4 centimetres and weighs 235 grams. There is an additional padded pocket at the front for smaller tablets, and the case fastens with a Velcro fastener.

On the back there is a covered Velcro panel, which allows the sleeve to be attached to rucksacks with a Velcro backing. D-rings also allow an optional carrying strap to be fitted, although this is not included. Price: 35 euros.

The main fabric, Textreme 6.6 Recycled, is made from polyester containing 40 per cent recycled material, supplemented by Microrip 2.1 polyamide. Here too, Tatonka avoids the use of PFCs and PFAS in the waterproofing process.
