The rucksack specialists from Gersthofen, near Augsburg, have launched their UP Stockholm Leisure Rucksack revamped. It is aimed at commuters and students who travel daily between work, university and around the city. The idea is that the rucksack combines storage space for a laptop, documents and personal belongings with a stylish, urban design.
The main compartment can accommodate laptops up to 15 inches and features a top-loading opening. The Contact back system, with its ergonomic shoulder straps and removable hip and chest straps, is designed to ensure comfort even when the rucksack is fully loaded.
The rucksack has a capacity of 24 litres and is available in Available in five colours and costs 130 euros.
Organisational structure and subjects
The main compartment accommodates laptops up to 15 inches and features separate compartments for folders, documents and valuables. The top-loading opening allows quick access to the contents. A padded zipped front pocket, a smartphone pocket and a side pocket complete the features. The side pocket can be expanded via a zip to form a bottle holder. The reinforced base protects the contents and ensures stability. Another plus: the light-coloured interior – making it much easier to find your things.
Contact back system and carrying system
The Contact back system features ergonomic shoulder straps. The hip and chest straps are detachable and, according to the manufacturer, are designed to ensure a comfortable fit even when the rucksack is fully loaded.
Materials and Certifications
This bluepass-certified rucksack bears the state-approved ‘Grüner Knopf’ seal and is manufactured without the deliberate addition of PFAS. The UP Stockholm is available in Black, Inc-Atlantic, Desert-Bone, Mocha-Pecan and Roots-Barley.

Editorial assessment
I like the new look, and the features too. However, the UP Stockholm doesn’t have Deuter’s biggest selling point: the Airstripe back system. For short commutes or similar trips, the Contact back system should be sufficient. Similar rucksacks with comparable features are currently on offer on the Deuter website – it’s worth having a look. For example, the UP Soul.
