The Atherton Limited Edition not only bears a well-known name, but also its philosophy. For a long time, it was impossible to imagine the World Cup circuit without the three siblings from England. Rachel and Gee in particular dominated the action on the world's downhill slopes for years. The Athertons have since retired from racing and former world champion Gee in particular has made it his mission to explore the most extreme lines in the remotest corners of the world. The team is known for its uncompromising choice of lines, technical innovation and intensive material testing under extreme conditions. It was precisely this input that went into the development of the limited Attack backpack.
With the Attack 20 Atherton, Deuter is launching an exclusive version of its established protector backpack, which is deliberately designed for performance in rough terrain. The edition is limited to just 100 pieces and is only available from the manufacturer itself - who knows, maybe this Attack will become a collector's item like the Deuter Bike 1 - the first ever MTB backpack.
The centrepiece of the backpack is the newly developed Re Zro back protector. According to the manufacturer, the flexible TPE material adapts to the shape of the back and is designed to reliably absorb energy even from hard impacts. At the same time, the protector remains flexible - a decisive factor when things get fast and technical on the trail.
The Re Zro protectors are special because they are biodegradable, which means that after use they are colonised by microbes and fungi in a landfill and converted into biogas and biomass. This is a sustainable solution that minimises the ecological footprint and ensures safety during use.
Deuter also relies on tried-and-tested but consistently advanced solutions for the carrying system. The Airstripes back system reduces the contact surface and is designed to improve ventilation. This effect is supported by perforated hip fins and well-ventilated shoulder straps - a clear advantage on long climbs or in summer temperatures.
On the trail itself, it's not just protection that counts, but above all stability. Here, the Attack Atherton relies on a combination of ergonomic shoulder straps, position adjustment straps and an elasticated hip belt. The aim: the rucksack sits compactly on the body without slipping - even when changing direction quickly or on rough sections.
In terms of functionality, the Deuter remains as versatile as ever. The backpack is compatible with hydration systems with a capacity of up to three litres, has modular attachment options for helmets and protectors and comes with an integrated rain cover. This means it covers both short after-work rides and long enduro days. Clever: the wide-opening tool compartment, which provides a clear overview in the event of a puncture.
Another feature of the new Attack is aimed at use on adventurous exploration tours: The attachment of the shoulder straps to the rucksack itself is designed so that the bike frame can be securely placed there on carrying sections. This should make carrying sections and climbs easier and more comfortable.
Last but not least, sustainability also plays a role: the Limited Edition is certified according to several standards, including bluesign® and the Green Button, and does not contain any deliberately added PFAS.
The Attack Atherton Limited Edition is not a lifestyle product, but a clearly functional trail backpack with racing DNA. The combination of flexible protector, stable fit and well thought-out ventilation should be of particular interest to enduro and downhill riders who also use their equipment at the limit. The limited number of pieces makes the model even more exciting - anyone who gets one will receive a piece of Atherton philosophy for their back that is consistently trimmed for performance.
