YT Industries has its roots in the gravity sector. So it's no wonder that the Forchheim-based company also has a knack for e-enduro bikes. The centrepiece of the Decoy Shred is a stylish carbon frame with a solidly mounted four-bar rear triangle. The Shimano E8000 motor is powered by a 540 watt-hour battery developed in-house. This sits securely in the down tube, secured with two bolts. The suspension consists of a solid steel spring shock at the rear and the brand-new 38 mm Fox Performance at the front. For the wheels, YT relies on the tried and tested 29/27.5-inch mix. With these key data, nothing can go wrong. Downhill, the bike scores top marks. It is agile and playful to ride and still provides a lot of confidence on the downhill. Just hold on tight - the stiff fork does a great job of guiding you, and thanks to the flat geometry you can pull the bike out of any tricky situation. The compact, flat geometry and the short chainstays make the Decoy a lot of fun on the descents, we would only replace the 2.8 plus rear tyre with a 2.6 tyre with a stronger casing. Uphill, the Shred wants to be used more as a shuttle to the downhill start. It is less fond of overly steep, technical climbs - a tribute to the compact riding position, the short chainstays and the relatively slack seat tube angle. If in doubt, sporty riders should go for the larger size, as the reach is compact. Decoy owners are currently struggling with the fact that replacement batteries cannot be ordered. In response to our enquiry, the direct mail order company has promised that the battery will be available in the fourth quarter of 2020. However, the originally announced larger battery (700 Wh) is not in sight.
The YT Decoy Shred lives up to its name: a fun machine with compact geometry and powerful suspension. Great in the bike park and on rough trails. Chic design.
