If you believe industry insiders, then trail bikes are the new enduro bikes. At least that is the case with the Lapierre Zesty, in which downhill virtuoso Nico Vouilloz was involved.

THE CONCEPT

The Zesty has been on the market for a few years now. We only recently had the opportunity to take it for a spin. The trail bike is also up to date for 2021. And it's one of the most downhill-orientated trail bikes on the market. The Zesty is available in 27.5 and 29-inch versions. Great: the plush suspension and comfortable geometry. The weight of the 3999 euro model is a hefty 14.8 kilos. This is mainly due to the heavy wheels (5663 g). However, due to the light frame (2669 g), there is potential for tuning.

ON THE TRAIL

On undulating trails, the Zesty pedals comfortably thanks to its propulsive riding position. However, the heavy wheels are a hindrance. When pedalling out of the saddle, the rear end pumps discreetly with the shock open. The Zesty really comes into its own when the trail starts to descend. The suspension works confidently and ensures composure and plenty of traction even in bumpy passages. The Zesty doesn't shy away from freeride sections and whispers to the rider: "Go for it!". All the testers liked the well-balanced geo straight away. Only the brakes (Sram G2 R) were weak.

FOR WHOM?

For all of you who can't decide between enduro and trail bikes - here's the answer! It's the Lapierre Zesty. We say: The Zesty is a good compromise between the two worlds. Because it has enduro genes and the necessary playfulness for jibbing. For a pure trail bike, this model is too corpulent in our eyes. Tip: If you don't want to save money, you should get a model with lighter wheels. This ensures more agility on undulating trails.
