With the new Gram dk frameset, Thok E-Bikes provides the equipment for E-MTB racing. The frame, chassis and two motorisation options are set, while the rest of the equipment can be customised to the maximum. The Thok set consists of a full carbon fibre mullet frame, Fox Factory Kashima suspension elements and an integrated 820 watt-hour battery. As a special feature, Thok offers a choice of two drive units: The Shimano EP801 and the Askoll Ultra C90A.
The Shimano EP801 drivetrain comes with the latest firmware. Alternatively, the Italian Askoll Ultra C90A motor is available. The power unit weighs 2.9 kilograms and delivers a peak output of up to 1,200 watts. The maximum torque is 90 Newton metres, in boost mode even 110 Newton metres, and is optimised for a pedalling frequency of 60 to 80 revolutions per minute. The pedal assistance, which can be adjusted in five stages, ranges from 80 to 400 per cent of the force applied by the cyclist. The Askoll drive is controlled via a Sigma Eox system on the handlebars.
With the Thok Gram dk frameset, the manufacturer from Alba in Italy wants to leave its mark on racing. Perhaps at the wrong time? The question arises as the UCI has cancelled the E-MTB discipline from the World Cup calendar for 2025. However, there are plenty of popular national e-MTB racing series in Europe, and the e-Enduro and e-Cross-Country disciplines are also back on the programme for the UCI MTB World Championships in Valais, Switzerland. There are also rumours that E-MTB will only take a break from the World Cup programme. So there are good reasons for manufacturers to keep an eye on e-racing.
Thok will be sending three international athletes into the race with customised Gram-dk bikes. Two of them will be using the Askoll Ultra C90A drive: Italian E-XCO champion Mirko Tabacchi and former downhill champion Eric Anselmo. Dutch E-Enduro racer Wilfred Van De Haterd opts for the Shimano EP801 motor.
According to Thok, the Gram dk frameset was developed for extreme requirements. By entering the world of racing, the manufacturer wants to test its own technology at the highest level of competition. Stefano Migliorini, CEO of Thok, explains: "We believe that the Gram has the perfect geometry to take on this kind of challenge. That's why we are ready to take on this challenge and bring the first-class quality of our products to the racing series."
The Thok Gram dk frameset is available online and from authorised Thok dealers. It includes the frame, the selected drive unit (Shimano EP801 or Askoll Ultra C90A), the integrated 820 watt-hour battery and the Fox Factory suspension. The price is 6599 euros.
