Propain Tyee CF Free on test
The mail-order brand from the Allgäu region never ceases to amaze us. We tested a Propain for the first time in 2011.

In the meantime, the high-flyer has even managed to displace top dogs such as Specialized and Canyon in the FREERIDE readers' favour. Behind YT, Propain is your second favourite bike. Wow! The Tyee is a real eye-candy, styled with a classy paint job, impeccable equipment and elegant cable routing. Carbon fibre wherever you look: Handlebars, cranks, even the entire frame is made of carbon fibre. No wonder the Tyee boasts an impressive weight (12.3 kilos with standard tyres). Unfortunately, light is cool - the Tyee accelerates like lightning and impresses with its airy handling. The aluminium version has already scored top marks in previous tests, back then with a slacker seat angle. Now you sit steeper, more directly above the bottom bracket - making the Tyee more comfortable and effective to pedal. The suspension - Pike at the front, Monarch Plus at the rear - works well, but is firmer than the comfort wonders such as Orbea, Alutech or Norco. Exemplary: Both suspension elements are easy to operate and harmonise well. The bike is balanced in its suspension travel and conveys a direct, racy ride feel. At high speeds, there is more feedback than with the hoovers in the test field - but the bike doesn't get nervous. Its downhill performance is very similar to the Trek. We found the geometry to be comfortable, not too long, not too short. You get a lot of pressure on the front wheel and steer very precisely. Due to the longer chainstay, it takes a little more arm pull to manoeuvre the bike onto the rear wheel, but the Propain is still one of the liveliest and most agile bikes in the test field.

ConclusionSexy look, mini weight, impeccable spec, feel-good geo and comfortable handling - we couldn't find any downsides to the Propain. The bike is a top enduro bike with great fun potential.

FREERIDE RANKING: The number (maximum 10 points) reflects the overall impression of the testers and is not an addition of downhill and uphill points. 10 = Test winner, it couldn't be better. 9 = Very good. Recommended purchase. 8 = Solid performance. 7 = Below average. The product has weaknesses. 1 to 6 = We can only warn against this!
